Simply Being Present

When do you know if you have connected with someone?

If we can spend time in silence together without wanting to fill it with words, I know I have made a strong connection.
It has to be a person who loves to talk but is also okay with being silent. It doesn’t make them anxious.
If they talk to me about different topics, I know I have made a connection.
If someone who uses few words wants to know how my weekend was and asks follow-up questions, well, I have built trust.
If the silence between topics isn’t filled with discomfort, I know, a thousand per cent, that I have built a connection.
If we can do different activities, like them knitting while I read a book, without them feeling the need to keep me company by reading a book too, that tells me something. They are choosing to sit across from me rather than avoiding being there.
You just know you have a true connection that will last for a long time.
